“Sisters, All Hallow’s Eve has become a night of frolic, where children wear costumes and run amok!” Winifred Sanderson

For those of you who have no idea what time of year it is- IT’S HALLOWEEN 🎃!!!

Which just happens to be my most favorite time of year! I love everything Halloween. The spooky decorations, the adorable and frightening costumes kids and puppies wear, the terrifying haunted houses and horror movies. The fact that you get to be another person for one night and people give you free candy is just icing on the cake. From Hocus Pocus to Michael Myers I’m in.

I got my love of Halloween from three special adults in my life when I was growing up. My very sweet friend Barbie who actually made Halloween trees and dressed up in costume, my Aunt Dar (Darlene) who had the best Halloween bonfires, and my Aunt Kathy who let us bob for apples and carve pumpkins. These three women made Halloween come alive for me and I will always hold those memories close to my heart.

This year we did something we’ve never done as a family before to help get us into the Halloween spirit. We went to Scarowinds in North Carolina. It cost a small fortune but we are going through some things as a family right now so we needed to do something out of the ordinary that would be fun. Steven is 21 and Jake is 13 so a trip to the pumpkin patch was not gonna cut it.

The boys didn’t get to ride any rides because everyone decided to descend upon Scarowinds this particular Saturday night so the wait times were an hour and half to two hours per ride. They are only open from 7p-12a and we didn’t get there until 8ish. It is because of its popularity and minimal hours that I would highly encourage getting what they call a fright pass (essentially a fast pass to skip the line). We did not have this so we chose to do the haunted attraction parts of Scarowinds. We had a blast! I screamed sooo much! I have not done a haunted house since I was a kid and Jake has never done one so we were sitting ducks. The settings were amazing and the scares were absolutely terrifying. It was worth every penny.

I have two hilarious videos that I recorded after each haunted attraction we went through. Yes we only had time for two (insane crowd). I would highly suggest you watch these videos if you would love a good laugh at my expense. 👻

  1. Dear Azure I really enjoy reading your posts. Say “Hello” from me to your eldest son. I was happy to see him a few seconds in the video.
